So, becoming a mother was what first dedicated me to my yoga practice and inspired me to take my practice off the mat and into the lives of children. That was over 6 years ago, and it's amazing that being a mother is still the biggest catalyst for change, ever-commiting me to to being a yogi, ever-requiring that I evolve, learn, unlearn and re-commit to my own unfolding and healing. . . because without growing myself I can not ask my child to be a better person than I am.
In 2010 I designed a children's yoga teacher training course called "Raising BlissKids", and while it was geared toward to the myriad of people in a child's life who could stand to play and re-connect with the wonder of childhood through yoga, something more personal was brewing beneath the surface.
So, after recording a little CD companion and presenting the training at the amazing Yoga Source and Therapy Studio (www.yogasource.ca) I decided to join forces with my friend and teacher, Gopala Amir Yaffe in educating children's yoga teachers worldwide through Rainbow Kids Yoga, Gopala's established and globally renowned teacher training company. The synergy in our collaboration was much greater and more gratifying than each of us continuing separately.
Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble though . . . a year after this union, "Raising BlissKids" is still rising to the surface, asking the original question that brought yoga and children together for me: How can yoga inspire the art of parenting? Nourish the parent / child relationship? Help us raise our children to discover, express and preserve their bliss?
So that's what this blog will explore . . . it'll likely weave in and out of parenting and teaching topics, but the core thread will be the yoga of parenting, of raising ourselves and our children to live yoga, through yoga. . . and it's all yoga.
Until soon,
Amanda
